Itinerary:
This tour takes you to some less-visited sites in Istanbul. The day starts with a pick up from your hotel (in the Sultanahmet or Taksim areas) at approximately 8.30am. Our first stop is
Yedikule Dungeons, a fortress with seven towers built to protect the treasury during the reign of Sultan Fatih Mehmet. Years later,
after the treasury was relocated to Topkapi Palace Yedikule was put to use as a dungeon where many foreign ambassadors and Ottoman statesmen were
imprisoned, and sometimes even executed. The fortress has not been used as a prison since 1831, and was converted to a museum in 1959.
These days the fortress is a popular location for summer open air concerts.
After our visit to Yedikule, we travel to the Chora Church, which is one of the highlights for many visitors to Istanbul. The church has a number
of stunning frescoes and mosaics depicting the life of Christ.
Next up is a stop for a tea and coffee break at Pierre Loti Hill with its excellent view over the Golden Horn. Choose to take the cable car
down to the Eyup Sultan Mosque where you can watch the world go by or take a walk through the old Muslim cemetary.
On the way back we stop at some old Greek and Jewish residential areas. You will return to your hotel around 1pm.
